Update on NCUA Deposit Insurance Coverage
The new Statutory Share Insurance law provides for an increase in the minimum NCUSIF coverage from $100,000 to $250,000 on member share accounts. This includes all account types, such as regular share, share draft, money market, and certificates of deposits. Individual Retirement Account and Keogh account coverage remains at up to $250,000 separate from other types of accounts owned.

10 Ways to Prepare for Retirement

4. Contribute to a tax-sheltered savings plan.
5. Ask your employer to start a plan.
6. Put money into an Individual Retirement Account.
7. Don’t touch your retirement savings.
8. Start now, set goals, and stick to them.
9. Consider basic investment principles.
10. Ask questions.

ALERT: "Smishing Scam"
SCU will NEVER send you a text or use an automated telephone service to solicit information about your account(s). NEVER reveal private information or account numbers and passwords over the telephone, text message or email. If you get a text alert about an account, DON'T respond before you verify that it's legitimate. You can do a Google search on the number to see whether it matches your financial institution. Even better, call the financial institution and give any needed information to a representative.
"Smishing" is the latest twist on the "Phishing" scam–instead of getting an e-mail, you get a text message. You're told to call a toll-free number, which is answered by a bogus interactive voice-response system that tries to fool you into providing your account number and password. It works because people don't give their cell phone numbers out. Thieves can use random-dialing telemarketing services to hit on your number.

CUNA and Southern Credit Union have partnered to bring you additional tools to meet all your financial needs. "Members Financial Network" is the starting point.
The Money Management module contains over a dozen financial calculators that are meant just for a do-it-yourselfer. The Educational Center has a wealth of helpful and timely articles.
If you need professional assistance with stock information, CUNA provides a representative, call toll-free 1-877-MEMBERS.
